Introducing Will Bielby

When we asked Will what his favourite project at Envivo has been he didn’t hesitate to answer that he most likes working on the Britomart streetscape upgrade in Auckland’s CBD.  He said “the exposure to problem-solving on a busy, live site and seeing work proceeding day-by-day has been terrific, it’s also great being part of a high performing team.”

Will has been working on some exciting projects with a wide range of stakeholders that he needs to deal with.  On the Britomart project his main contact is with JFC contractors, combined with plenty of liaison with the client, site engineers, utility providers and the architects Peddle Thorp.

Will has also been leading the team on innovative new software for Watercare.  Blackbox22 is a licensed-based system that we’re introducing at Envivo to provide asbuilt survey processing for Watercare assets such as water mains and wastewater services.  Click here to read more.

Will started in our surveying team and has moved to our engineering department to work on quality assurance, MSQA, flood reports and civil engineering projects.  He has also been working closely with our project management team and has been involved in projects large and small.

Why would a surveyor want engineering exposure?  Will explained “engineering experience is invaluable to surveyors and is required by the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (NZIS) in order to become a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor.  It’s very satisfying to learn more and progress my career.  It’s good to see that NZIS recognises that all-round skills and experience in engineering are valuable for a surveyor.

“I am really enjoying learning so many different aspects of the business.  I feel that I’m growing into my position and not just looking at the spatial data but seeing the big picture too.  I’m working on exciting and high profile projects.  Envivo is providing a broad range of skills and experiences, I’m learning from others – and my mentors have been great.  In civil engineering I’m working closely with Chris and Jean and in the project management team both Fergus and Stuart have been excellent.  They’re all very supportive and helpful.”

Will’s goals for the future include improving his knowledge of engineering, surveying and the corporate world.  Working with Envivo teams he has plenty of opportunities the possibilities are looking good.
