Sills van Bohemen architects and JAWA Structures won the competition to upgrade Hurstmere Green in Takapuna, Auckland. The client was Auckland Council with a redevelopment budget of $2.7m. The goal was to transform the area into a welcoming and open public space from its original tired and overgrown condition.
JAWA Structures carried out the structural and civil engineering design and documentation for the wide range of structures and the project including:
- precast Rangitoto and informal paths
- retaining walls
- stairway
- bleachers
- pavements
- walkways
- drainage
- aggrock landscape surfaces
- stone table and street furniture
- deck structures
The project was completed ahead of programme and to budget while meeting the Auckland Council’s requirement for a very high standard of construction.
Preserving mature trees while undertaking significant structural works using carefully located pile and bridging systems was one of a number of challenges for the engineers working on the Hurstmere Green project.
